Saturday, September 22nd, 2012
Story by Assistant Chief K. Schwerin Jr.
On Saturday September 22nd the members of the Robert Fulton Fire Company were alerted for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Assistant 89 (Schwerin Jr.) went responding and was given a two vehicle accident at the intersection of King Pen Rd and Nottingham Rd. Soon after Rescue 89 and Engine 89-1 also went enroute. Asst. 89 went on location with 2 vehicles off the road and assumed “Command 89”. After surveying the scene it was determined that there was no entrapment of any individuals but that the damage to the car in question made the safe removal of the victim extremely difficult and resulted in confinement.
Rescue 89 and Engine 89-1 arrived on scene and conferred with command to decide the best action to remove the patient from the damaged vehicle. The crews determined that it would be necessary to remove the roof to best extricate the individual. After removing the roof the patient was packaged and transported to the hospital. The roadway was then cleared and the department was placed available.
