5:44 PM, The Robert Fulton Fire Company volunteers were once again called out onto the Susquehanna River today, this time for a boat in distress.
Deputy 5-13 (R. Sample) responded and was advised by Lancaster County-Wide Communications that the caller stated he was just South of the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Plant and had ran out of gas. Deputy 5-13 then placed a phone call to the boater to ascertain exactly what fuel was needed. Once it was determined the boat ran on straight gas, Deputy 5-13 placed a call to Kerry Stoudt, owner of the Peach Bottom Marina, and asked if he could get a can of gas filled. Even though the marina had closed for the day Kerry happily agreed to meet and pump the gas.
Engine 5-13-5 (Capt. Schwerin W/5) and Boat 5-13 arrived on scene at the marina, loaded up with the proper equipment and the can of gas, and then headed out to find the stranded boat.
Boat 5-13 quickly met up with the 18 foot Four Winns cabin cruiser and its four occupants and transferred the gas. Once the boat was running again, it followed Boat 5-13 back into the marina to fill its tanks.
Even though this call was ran as a non-emergency response due to the fact that the boat was currently in no danger, a boat floating on the lower Susquehanna River will eventually float dangerously close to the Conowingo Dam. By transporting gas out to this boat, any further harm was diverted and the occupants were able to enjoy the rest of their day on the water.
The company was placed available at 6:28 PM.
Again we would like to thank Kerry at the Peach Bottom Marina for assisting us in helping our community.
